Oxford Instruments x-met 7000

Oxford Instruments is a leading provider of high technology tools and systems for research, and industry.

The Design Unit worked with the Industrial Analysis group at Oxford Instruments (both in the UK and Finland) to produce the latest incarnation of their highly successful 'X-Met' range of X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Analysers.

Used for elemental analysis, the XRF analyser is employed in a wide range of industries, such as the analysis of precious metals or heavy metals in soils. The technique allows for fast, reliable and completely non-destructive testing.

The design utilises a post machined aluminium extrusion as an integral structural element of the casework. It acts as a primary heat sink to the x-ray tube, which emits a significant amount of heat in use. Over moulded details ensure the unit is robust enough to be effective in tough environments.
